Politicisation of attack unfortunate: Rajnath

BJP president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday termed politicisation of the attack on the convoy of Congress party as “unfortunate”. “If anyone has any suspicion, one needs to wait for the judicial inquiry on the incident to get over which would make everything clear,” he told reporters before leaving for New Delhi from Swami Vivekanand Airport here. The BJP president was here to meet those injured in the attack at Ramakrishna Care Hospital in the city.

Singh while in the city also visited the residence of Prafulla Shukla, the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of former Union Minister Vidya Charan Shukla who died while protecting the latter in the attack.

“Naxalism is a big challenge. The Union Government needs to take all State Government into confidence and prepare a comprehensive action plan,” he said.

Singh said that the Union Government needs to have a firm will to implement the counter-insurgency plan or the problem could get worst. “It’s a big challenge to the national security,” he said.

Replying to questions over paying tributes to Nand Kumar Patel on May 25 itself, hours before it was known that Patel had been shot, he clarified, “I had returned from Gorakhpur after attending a programme and someone informed me over phone that such incident has occurred so I reacted over it.”

To another query over allegation of involvement of some political group in the Darbha incident, he said, “I would not comment over it, a judicial commission of inquiry has been instituted and its term of reference has also been decided. We should wait for its decision.”

Over the talk of intelligence failure in the incident, Singh commented: “Whether it is State or Central, the Union Government should take steps to improve the intelligence framework as slowly all systems are failing.”

Over the issue of Chhattisgarh Congress Party rejecting the invitation of all-party meeting called by Chief Minister Raman Singh, the BJP president opined that when the country is facing challenges like Naxalism or terrorism, everyone should unite in such critical times.

To another query over impact of Darbha incident on the forthcoming Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh, he remarked: “The BJP does not see such incidents from a perspective of political benefit or loss.”
