In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police have identified the two robbers who gunned down a security guard and robbed Rs 1.5 crore from an ATM kiosk in North Delhi's Kamla Nagar market area in November 2014.
According to senior police officers of the North district, one of the accused has been identified as Ashutosh Mishra who is currently lodged in Aligarh jail in Uttar Pradesh. Senior cops said that they have asked their UP counterparts to send Mishra to Delhi on Transit remand. On the other hand, the second accused Ata-Ullah too has been identified but the Delhi Police have not been able locate him.
On November 2014, two unidentified bike borne men had gunned down a security guard and robbed Rs 1.5 crore from an ATM kiosk in Kamla Nagar in broad daylight. The Custodians of a van belonging to a private firm were refilling money into the ATM, when the unidentified two men on a bike arrived and shot dead the security guard and fled with a bag containing money.
According to the police, the robbers had allegedly kept the briefcase containing the cash on their bike after firing two more shots in the air and fled with ease. The guard, Satender Singh (28), died of his injuries at the hospital. He belongs to Mainpuri area in UP and his family has been informed.
An FIR under sections of murder, robbery and Arms Act was registered against the then unidentified bike borne robbers who wore helmet during the 2 minutes of the incident.
According to a senior police officer, the cash was being replenished by a private firm. Two custodians, identified as Ghanshyam Pandey and Deepak Sapra, had set out with Rs 1.5 crore in a green briefcase. They were accompanied by the gunman, Singh — who was carrying a single barrel rifle with him — and the driver, Govind.
The van reached the area around 10.20am and the driver parked it on the main road, 50 metres away from the ATM. They had to load Rs 18 lakh in this ATM but the two custodians walked to the kiosk with the briefcase containing Rs 1.5 crore meant for various ATMs in the city.
According to the CCTV footage recovered by police then, the guard stood outside the ATM while the custodians went in and began to take out the cash from the briefcase. Suddenly, two men wearing denims and sports shoes arrived on a black Pulsar bike. Both were wearing helmets. The man at the front was wearing a grey sweatshirt and the pillion-rider a black jacket.
