Police atrocity: Women protesters beaten in Firozabad
Published on:

Reports of police excesses remained unabated with another case of police brutality reported from Ferozabad, when cops attacked a group of women who were protesting after a road mishap.

In another incident in Sitapur, a youth died in police custody. In Ferozabad, senior officers tried to hush up the matter by suspending just three police constables only after a television channel showed the footage of the police brutality.

Reports said that two persons were killed when a tractor trolley rammed into a tempo near the district hospital at Ferozabad on Monday night. Agitated with the mishap, local residents, mainly women, alleged that the incident occurred after cops were trying to extort money from the tractor driver. The driver, busy talking, rammed the truck into the tempo. They also alleged that police later helped the driver to escape from the scene of crime.

The villagers took to the street and staged a huge blockade at Subash Crossing on the National Highway near the district hospital under Uttar police station. Reports further said that incharge of Uttar Police Station reached the spot along with policemen and tried to clear the blockade. However during the above process, some women pushed the cops which agitated them and they not only slapped the protesting ladies but also cane charged to disperse them.

The matter took a turn on Tuesday when after some channels showed the police brutality, principal secretary (home) AK Gupta reportedly summoned a report from SP Ferojabad, Rakesh Kumar. However, to hush up the matter, SP Ferojabad spared Shree Prakash and just suspended three policemen - Sanjiv Kumar, Neeraj and Giriraj - all posted at Rasulpur police station.
