Even as 22-year-old convener of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) Hardik Patel is trying hard to come out from Surat jail in sedition cases related to pro-quota agitation, another Patidar leader and convener of Sardar Patel Group (SPG), lalji Patel was arrested by the police from North Gujarat town.
The SPG convener has been booked for attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, rioting and destruction to public property during Jail Bharo Andolan on 17th April. The police didn’t arrest him as he hospitalised on the same day as he complained of uneasiness and anxiety. Since then he was recuperating at lions Hospital’s ICU.
High drama created at the hospital as the doctors decided to discharge him on Tuesday morning. lalji too decided to arrest himself. But the police waited for Civil Surgeon’s fitness certificate. Hence the police arrested him late in the night after Civil Surgeon checked him and gave fitness certificate.
“The police have filed wrong cases against Patidar agitators. I have not done anything wrong and hence not initiate procedure to get anticipatory bail. Even after going to the jail, I would not file bail application before the court. Now, it is up to the government to take the call,” said lalji Patel on his arrest.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday against the local Crime Branch’s demand of 14 days remand, a local court in Mehsana has granted five days remand of the SPG convener.
