The PMK, a political outfit launched by Vanniyar community in Tamil Nadu and a former ally of the BJP, termed on Friday the move of the NDA Government to re-promulgate the land Acquisition Bill as an Ordinance “as a mockery of democracy and an insult on parliamentary system of polity”. Party founder S Ramadoss asked the President not to give nod for this move. In a statement released here on Friday, Ramadoss said the decision of the Government to go for the Ordinance route for the third-time was against the interest of the farmers and highly condemnable.
“Since about five crore acres of land is already available as vacant land or Government land, there is no need to further acquire land. The Government should stop its pig-headedness to pass the Bill and leave it to the Parliamentary Committee’s decision and subjugate to its conclusions. It should abandon its efforts to pass an Ordinance again,” the Vanniyar leader said Ramadoss gave enough hints to the BJP that he and his party would not hesitate to move to the Congress camp if the BJP continues with its obsession for the land Acquisition Bill. He claimed that the land Acquisition Bill brought in by the Congress was ideal for farmers and the poor.
