In a first for any paramilitary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 50th Raising Day celebrations of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Sunday.
“It is a moment of great pride for the CISF as in the last four decades no Prime Minister had graced the occasion of Raising Day parade,” CISF Director General Rajesh Ranjan said at the annual press briefing on the eve of the Raising Day on Thursday. On a question if there was any specific reason behind the PM’s decision to join the event, the DG said he was not aware. “I can guess that he may discuss the recent Pulwama attack and the unfortunate death of a CISF trooper in a Delhi fire and enhance the morale of Central Armed Police Forces,” Ranjan said. On a question if the CISF will take over the security of the three airports in Jammu & Kashmir including Jammu, Srinagar and Leh airports, Ranjan said the Ministry of Civil Aviation has cleared the proposal and the Union Home Ministry has to vet it now.
