Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a three-nation tour to Germany, Spain and Russia from May 29 to June 3. While the visit to Germany and Spain will be for bilateral talks, the trip to St Petersburg in Russia is in connection with the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) to be held from June 1-3. PM will also hold the annual talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit.
After return from the three-nation tour, Modi will be travelling to Kazakhstan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting to be held in Astana on June 7-8 where he is expected to meet Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif. Both India and Pakistan are being inducted as new members in the SCO, a grouping which includes Russia, China, Kazakshstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In July, Modi will travel to Israel. In Germany, Modi will hold talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel under the Indo-German Inter-Governmental Consultations where they will review the progress of previous pacts and work out ways to enhance economic ties. This will be his second visit to Germany in two years. Earlier, he had paid an official visit to the country in April 2015 when India was the ‘Partner Country' in the annual Hannover Fair.
Merkel had subsequently visited India in October in the same year. On May 31, Modi will be in Spain where his focus will be on seeking cooperation in sectors like infrastructure and energy, the sources said.
