Plea in HC for Vadra land probe

A local social and RTI activist had demanded a probe against Congress national president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra for his alleged involvement in DlF deal. Vadra, who is husband of Priyanka Gandhi had reportedly made crores of rupees through the deal.

In a writ filed at lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Monday, activist Nutan Thakur demanded a probe particularly in view of the reply filed by IAS officer Ashok Khemka against the son-in-law of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. She said that allegations made by Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan against Robert Vadra regarding quid pro quo by Central Government in DlF deals should be made.

Thakur sent a representation to the Prime Minister’s Officer (PMO) on October 9, 2012 seeking enquiry in the matter and when nothing happened, she filed a Writ petition No 8596/2012 in HC which was disposed on March 3, 2013.

When the PMO told Thakur in RTI that her representation was sent to law Ministry, she sent a fresh representation on March 22 to the law Ministry. Even after this, the PMO or law Ministry did not take any action.and refused to provide information under RTI. Now Thakur has prayed before the High Court to enquire into the allegations made against Vadra.

Meanwhile, in another writ petition filed by IPS officer Amitabh Thakur and social activist Nutan Thakur challenging the recommendations of Virat Kohli for Arjuna Awards and Sunil Gavaskar for Dhyan Chand award by Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI), the Allahabad High Court, lucknow Bench has directed the Sports Ministry to follow its rules framed in this regard. The Bench of Justice Devi Prasad Singh and Justice Ashok Pal Singh disposed of the petition saying that the Ministry was bound by its own rules framed for Sports awards and cannot violate it.

The petitioners’ counsel Ashok Pande had argued that only National Sports Federation (NSF) can make recommendations for the national sports awards. BCCI is not one of the 51 NSFs recognised by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, but is a completely unrecognised private body which cannot make such recommendations.
