By appearance it looks like normal fine rice but when cooked it turns into a sticky ball with a nasty smell. This is the story of “plastic rice” which has left people in Hyderabad worried and confused.
The attempts by some unscrupulous elements to sell the “plastic rice” came to light in two different episodes in the city over the last couple of days.
In the latest incident inmates of students hostel in Yusufguda were shocked when the rice they cooked turned into hard unpalatable sticky ball and emanated chemical smell.
Realising that their something amiss they lodged a complaint with the SR Nagar Police Station against the shop fro where they had purchased the rice bag with a brand name Mahateja.
To prove their point that it was indeed artificial rice made of plastic material they made a ball of the cooked rice and played cricket with it.
Two days ago a TV journalist was in for a shock when chicken biryani he bought from a joint turned into sticky mass. The journalist A Indrasen said that the biryani rice had plastic texture and when he made a ball out of it and hit it on the plate it bounced back.
When he went back to the MRCB food joint to complain against the quality of the rice the hotel staff beat him up. Saroornagar police arrested the hotel owner and two others.
