The mythological Pishach Mochan Kund of this holy city of Kashi will be rejuvenated with the change of dirty water before the forthcoming Pitrupaksha, which will be observed this year from September 29 to October 14. During Pitrupaksha this pond witnesses a heavy rush of people come here from different far flung areas to offer ‘pind daans’ to their forefathers. A good number of people also come here to offer rituals for those family members who met unnatural or untimely deaths.
Along with development, the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also reviving things related to social and religious beliefs. Keeping in mind the faith of those who offer ‘pind daan’ for their ancestors, the government will also clean the water of the Pishach Mochan Kund of Kashi while rejuvenating it. Varanasi Smart City is seeking ideas from people for it. Those who give the best idea will be honoured and will also be given preference in participation during the technology used in the cleaning of Pishach Mochan Kund.
‘Pind daan’ has special significance in Kashi, the city of salvation. Pishach Mochan Kund has a lot of religious importance. The previous governments did not pay much attention as a result the pond is in a bad condition today. Due to the foul smell coming from the pond, the people hesitate even to bathe there while offering pind daan rituals. Chief General Manager (CGM) of Varanasi Smart City Dr D Vasudevan said ideas are being sought from people to save the water of Pishach Mochan Kund from pollution. The idea which will be studied by the committee and the person giving the best idea will be honoured apart from giving an appropriate amount and priority in doing this work.
The CGM said any participant can apply till July 7. There will be a presentation on July 12 and the name of the winner will be announced on July 14. In this idea competition, research students, professors of any IIT, university, college and any other educational institution, as well as startup entrepreneurs who have a unique idea to do this work can participate. Along with emailing to ideas@varanasimartcity.gov.in, the original copy has to be given to the Smart City office, he added.
