The Supreme Court on Friday decided to act tough against lawyers who file and argue only PIls after it saw how the process was being abused by some lawyers who claimed to be political activists.
“You can’t become a professional activist. As a lawyer you are supposed to do your professional work and not file PIls at the drop of a hat,” said a Bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur. The observation came while dealing with a PIl filed by a lawyer-activist Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay who claimed to be a BJP spokesperson. The PIl related to framing a National liquor Policy in order to curb liquor consumption.
