Petition on beef ban: SC issues notice to Centre, Maha Govt

Published on:

The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Centre and Maharashtra Government on a petition which sought ban on possession of beef brought from outside the State.

The Bombay High Court had recently held that citizens can possess beef imported from outside the State as this is part of their right to live and right to privacy and such persons cannot be liable for any criminal action for possessing beef.

The petition in apex court challenging the HC decision was filed by an organisation called Akhil Bhartiya Krishi Gauseva Sangh.
