External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Thursday she is hopeful of finding a permanent solution to Tamil Nadu fishermen repeatedly getting arrested by Sri lankan security forces during the forthcoming visit of lankan Fisheries Minister to New Delhi in May.
Giving this assurance in the Rajya Sabha during the question hour, she also said the Government is issuing GPS and installing luminous buoys to demarcate the International Maritime Boundary with Pakistan off Gujarat. These measures will prevent Indian fishermen from straying into Pakistan waters and getting arrested.
As regards lanka, she said earlier attempts to involve fishermen from both the countries to find a solution to the recurring issue of arrests could not yield desired results. During her recent visit, Sushma said she held detailed discussions with the lankan leadership and it was decided that their Fisheries minister will come to New Delhi in May to hold further discussions. Sushma said the Indian agriculture Minister will also be involved in the parleys as he heads the fisheries department too.
