As the rescue and relief operations entered the seventh day on Tuesday, flood-affected population in Srinagar have started raising an outcry for the Central Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to completely take over the command of relief operations in the absence of the State Government machinery on ground zero.
“There is total collapse of State Government machinery and we have not seen them working for the rescue of our own people. There is no policeman, no trace of Cabinet Ministers, no trace of divisional commissioner, other arms of State machinery too have failed to come to our rescue,” said common people who were deprived of basic amenities for past couple of days while their houses were submerged under water.
Speaking to teams of mediapersons in relief camps and safe locations in Srinagar even State Government employees on camera candidly admitted absence of State Government machinery on ground zero.
“We do not want them to be made responsible for providing relief to the affected population. We want Prime Minister Narendra Modi to completely take charge of the relief operations and direct the Army, IAF and NDRF teams to extend all possible help to the distressed people of Kashmir.”
“Kashmir is suffering and only Prime Minister Modi and his team of officers supervising the relief operations can apply balm on our wounds,” the flood affected people claimed in front of the camera.
In contrast, responding to the charges of total break down of State Government machinery in Kashmir Valley Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while speaking to a TV channel claimed it is not the time to blame or take the credit. Every one is working as a team and coordinating rescue operations. It is not about the Centre or J&K, he added.
