Peacock bumps into window due to smog, rescued

A wildlife SOS on Wednesday rescued a peacock from Siri Fort Sports Complex after it had flown into the area from the nearby forest early and bumped into a glass window because of poor visibility due to the smog.

"The bird is currently being kept under observation and is being given the requisite treatment and after making complete recovery, it will be released back into its natural habitat. It was found in a disoriented state and was unable to walk or fly," the wildlife body said.

Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said the city has been wrapped up in a "thick, black, poisonous" cloud of smoke since the night of Diwali. "Not only is this extremely harmful for human beings, but animals are also at the receiving end. The peacock could have had worse injuries and could have died. We have received many more calls to rescue wild animals in distress because of this smog," he said.
