Two prominent political parties in Jammu & Kashmir — the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference (NC) — are trading charges against each other of playing second fiddle to national parties — the BJP and the Congress.
While the NC accuses that PDP has a secret deal with the BJP against the interests of the State, the PDP has blamed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of subsuming his party into the Congress only to gain power and occupy the Chief Minister’s seat.
“Omar Abdullah’s only ambition was to become the Chief Minister for six years which he later even projected as his only achievement and in the process subsumed the NC into the Congress,” PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said at a rally in central Kashmir.
He said the NC-Congress coalition was collapsing “under the weight of its own sins against the people of Jammu & Kashmir”.He said the coalition Government was formed to gather power and immunity against the misconduct of the leaders of the alliance. “That is why no action was taken in any of the scandals that surfaced during the last five-and-half years which touched the CM,” he said.
The NC in reply accused the PDP of working on an elaborate plan to dilute the anti-BJP votes in Jammu region to help Narendera Modi. The ruling party’s spokesman Junaid Mattu said that the PDP extended tactical support to the BJP in Jammu & Kashmir in lieu of promises to be installed in the Government here.“These tactical decisions have been taken in meetings between the PDP leaders and Modi’s close associates in New Delhi. Such antics are bound to fail as the PDP has no space in the future of the State,” Mattu said.
“While Mufti Mohammad Sayeed might be willing to do Modi’s work in the State, even if it means supporting commitment to abrogate Article 370, the people of this State will not allow Modi to infiltrate into J&K through the Trojan Horse of the PDP,” Mattu said.
