PCC to hold yatra in rebels' constituencies

Amidst continued political ambiguity, the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee will hold its loktantra Bachao Nyay Yatra in the Assembly constituencies of the nine turncoat Congress MlAs in order to communicate with the people and to learn their views on the recent political changes in Uttarakhand. The PCC president Kishore Upadhyay said this while addressing the media here at the Congress Bhawan on Thursday evening.

Repeating his allegations about the BJP, Prime Minister Narendera Modi and party national president Amit Shah orchestrating political instability, Upadhyay averred that the BJP was not bothered about development of Uttarakhand. He said, “The Congress-led State Government had recently passed a good budget in the Assembly considering major issues like the drought and shortage of potable water in the State. With the financial year ending now, the BJP and especially the Prime Minister should undertake the responsibility of ensuring execution of various works left in limbo following recent political disturbance,” he said. Upadhyay stated that the PCC had sought an appointment with the Governor on Friday to raise these vital issues.

He said, “We will undertake our loktantra Bachao Nyay Yatra to know the views of people living in the assembly constituencies represented by the nine turncoat MlAs. This initiative will be in Rudraprayag on April 2 followed by Kedarnath on April 3, Narendranagar on April 4, Sitarganj on April 5, Khanpur on April 6 and Raipur on April 6 whereas such interaction has already been held with the people of Jaspur and Ramnagar segments. A large rally will also be held in Dehradun as part of this campaign though the date has not been finalised yet. After this, we will focus on all the 70 assembly constituency areas with Congress bodies at village, district, block and State levels holding rallies to protest and raise public awareness,” he said.

On being asked about whether the PCC is planning to annul the party membership of the nine turncoat MlAs, the PCC chief said that he would follow the party procedure and consider required measures after receiving the report from the party’s disciplinary committee.
