A day after he ridiculed Rahul Gandhi “for having gone on a holiday to Bangkok” fearing the Congress’ defeat in the State Assembly polls, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis likened NCP chief Shara Pawar to Asrani’s character as a jailer in film “Sholay” and said the latter in reality was left with no supporters behind him.
Addressing an election rally at Phalton in Satara district of western Maharashtra, Fadnavis took a dig at Pawar by saying: “Sharad Pawar’s condition is like that of Jailer in film ‘Sholay’.. Aadhe ider jaon, Aade Uder jao, baki mere peche aao. Like in the film, there is no one behind Pawar”.
Alluding to veteran Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde’s comment that “we (Congress and NCP) are tired. Both the parties need to merge”, Fadnavis said: “Shinde understands as to what is in store for the Congress-NCP in the elections.
The two parties will find themselves such a pitiable situation after the Assembly polls that both the parities will not have enough numbers to stake claim for the post of the Opposition leader in the State Assembly”.
Hitting out at the previous Congress-NCP government, Fadnavis said: “They (the two parries) were in power for 15 years. But they did not do anything for the people. After political transformation took place in the country in 2014, both the Congress and NCI bit dust in the 2014 Assembly polls”.
