Incidents of medical negligence continues to pour as a patient died after being given an injection by a sweeper in State-run hospital in Ambedkar Nagar prompting Health minister Ahmed Hassan to order a high level probe into the incident.

While the accused sweeper, who had administered the injection has been dismissed from the service, the concerned staff nurse has been put on suspension by the minister.

In a statement issued here on Monday Hassan said that now in future the concerned Chief Medical officer(CMO) or Chief Medical Superintendent(CMS) would be held responsible for such irregularities in their hospitals.

This was second incident in the recent past when untrained persons gave injection to the patients leading to their deaths. In Ballia district hospital, a rickshaw puller was caught in the camera giving an injection to a 7-month-old infant last week. later the infant died. Similar cases were also reported from Aligarh, Meerut, Bulandshar in the recent past.

Interestingly, UP Health minister Ahmed Hassan and his State Minister Sankhlal Manjhi are fromAmbedarnagar hence the Government action was swift. But even after lodging FIR against three people in the Ballia case, the police is yet to arrest the culprits.
