Even after a week of Ketan Patel’s custodial death in North Gujarat town Mehsana, his family members and agitating Patidar community have not performed last rituals and demanded that his mortal remains would be cremated only after Government give assurance on CBI inquiry.

Three persons, including Bharat Barot, Chirag Barot and constable Chirag Parmar, were arrested in the case on Tuesday following the complaint filed by Mahendra Patel,  father of the deceased.  However, the family of 30-year-old Patel and agitating Patidars want nothing less than CBI inquiry.

Police have registered FIR against Parmar, Bharat Barot and son under sections 302 (murder), 364, 365 (kidnapping), 397 (robbery) of IPC coupled with the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Confirming the development, advocate of the Ketan Patel’s family Babubhai Mangukia said that they won’t perform his last rituals till the State Government give written assurance on CBI inquiry. Meanwhile, Mangukia has written a letter to Gandhinagar range IGP that since he was fighting for Patel’s family to give them justice, he received death threats.

The victim was arrested by the police on June 3 following the complaint of theft filed by Bharat Barot, who runs a hotel. Couple of days letter Ketan died in civil hospital due to illness, according to police. Death of the Patidar youth spread like wildfire and it led to protest by pro-quotaoutfits.

According to victim’s father, Barot had abducted Ketan on June 1 with the help of his son and beat him cruelly. “later on, he was taken to police station where police again beat him. Constable Parmar, called me and demanded Rs50,000 for release of Ketan. I refused to pay bribe. Two days later, again a call came demanding Rs16000 to release him,” he said.
