Parliament will hold a two-day National legislators’ Conference on the theme of “We for Development” on March 10-11. This was announced by lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan here on Sunday on the conclusion of the 6th conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) — India Region.

She said in 2015 a National Women legislators’ conference had been held in which women legislators  from across the country had participated. “Six MlAs and three MlCs have been invited from each State to attend the proposed conference but there should be at least two women legislators,” she said addressing the media in the Bihar Assembly premises.

Showing concern over the unruly behavior of a “handful” of lawmakers who disturb the proceedings of the legislative bodies she said, “There is provision of taking action against them but every day they cannot be pulled out of the Parliament and Assemblies. Even in schools, teachers have been stopped from punishing the children for indiscipline,” she said and added that training sessions are held everywhere for the legislators. However, she hastened to add that it was not just they create chaos but also take part in the constructive discussions and work till late in the Houses.

Appreciating the move of the Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary for moving for motion of confidence vote as there is only the provision for no confidence motion, she said it is a good suggestion and she would consider it to make such move in the Parliament too to formulate provision for confidence motion.

Talking about MPlAD fund, she said the MP could do good works in constituency if the fund is used in a better manner and also with the consultation of the local people and the local officials.

Mahajan said the Patna conference has unanimously resolved to expand and enhance the activities and programmes of the CPA India region and decided to plan zonal level seminars, conferences and other activities on topical issues. Four zones have been created and the India region headquarters offered tom extend all possible support , guidance and some financial assistance.

The conference concluded with the valedictory address by Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik. On this occasion lS Speaker Mahajan, Assembly Speaker Chaudhary, secretary general of CPA Akbar Khan also addressed the delegates.
