In one of the 52 cases registered in connection with Kerala’s infamous Paravur sex scandal in which a 15-year-old girl was brutally raped by her father and then pushed into flesh trade, a Kochi court on Monday sentenced Sudhir, the girl’s father, to 10 years imprisonment. Subaida, the girl’s mother was awarded seven-year imprisonment. Pronouncing verdict on the fourth chargesheet, the Additional Sessions Court in Ernakulam also slapped fines of `40,000 and `20,000 respectively on Sudhir and Subaida. The girl’s mother was not an accused as per the first, second and third chargesheets. Both Sudhir and Subaida would now be shifted to the Central jail in Viyyur, Thrissur.

Sudhir was an accused as per all the three chargesheets the police had earlier filed. The court had awarded him life imprisonment, seven-years’ jail term and 10 years imprisonment in the first, second and third cases respectively. The proceedings over the fourth chargesheet had got delayed after third accused Rajasekharan Nair committed suicide. Sudhir had raped the girl at knife-point and by threatening to kill her brother and then pushed her into flesh trade. He had presented her to several persons who included bureaucrats, politicians, police officer and film personalities between June, 2009 and April 2010.
