Pansare murder case: Gaikwad's custody extended by two days

Published on:

A week after his arrest in connection with the sensational murder of CPI activist Govind Pansare murder, a Kolhapur court on Wednesday extended the custody of Sanatan Sanstha activist Samir Gaikwad by two more days.

Despite having deployed a battery of 30-odd lawyers, the right-wing Sanatan Sanstha failed to get the bail of Gaikwad.

Though the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had sought the extension in custody of the murder accused by seven days, Magistrate Aparna Jainapure remanded Gaikwad in the custody of SIT for just two more days.

Talking to media persons, Special Public Prosecutor Chandrakant Budhale said that the police would produce Gaikwad before the Kolhapur court once again on September 26 and seek extension of his custody.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that it was the frequent change of SIM cards that had made Kolhapur police suspicious of Gaikwad, who had been kept under surveillance for many days before he was arrested formally from Sangli in western Maharashtra on September 16.
