Panel submits report without suggesting amendments

In a significant development the select committee entrusted with the job of proposing amendments to the long pending J&K Hindu Shrines and Religious Places (Management and Regulation) Bill on Wednesday submitted its report to the Speaker without suggesting any amendment.

The Government is expected to table the Bill in the lower house and may take a final call on its fate. After the Bill was first introduced in March 2009 it was kept in the cold storage for four years despite facing heat from prominent Kashmir pandit organisations fighting for the maintenance of vandalised temples/religious shrines belonging to the minority community.

In April 2013 when the Bill was taken up for consideration and passing the divided house had referred it to the select committee.
