TThe Maharashtra Government on Tuesday told the Bombay High court that the Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission (MSBCC) would submit its report on the socio-economic status of the Marathas to it by November 15, even as the High Court exhorted the Maratha community members not to indulge in violence.
On a day when the Government filed an affidavit before the High Court saying that it would take a decision on Maratha reservations after it received a report from MSBCC by November 15, a HC bench of Justices Ranjit More and Anuja Prabhudessai noted that the Maratha community members should remember that the court had taken cognisance of the situation in the State vis-a-vis the protests over reservations.
“The matter is sub-judice and we have taken note of the situation.
“Due process is being followed by the commission and the state, and members of the community must remember this,” the HC bench said.
“We hope and trust that the members (of the community) will not take law in their hands, or resort to extreme steps such as taking their own lives.
They must remember that human life is very valuable and cannot be lost just like that,” the bench observed.
