With two more back-to-back ceasefire violations reported from across the Pakistani side of the line of Control in frontier Poonch district during the last 24 hours the Pakistani Army looks determined to derail the peace process with India under the newly-elected Pakistan Premier Nawaz Shariff.
After the death of one Indian JCO in Poonch sector on June 7, Pakistani Army on Tuesday afternoon once again resorted to small arms firing in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch for over one hour.
This is the sixth major ceasefire violation in the last fortnight after the election of Nawaz Sharif in Pakistan.
According to Defence sources, the Pakistani Army had also trained its guns towards Indian forward posts in the KG sector late Monday night. There has been no report of any loss on either side.
Official sources said Pakistani Army may have resorted to daylight firing to test the degree of alertness of the Indian side before plotting their locations on their maps.
Officiating Defence PRO in Jammu SN Acharaya said, “The first ceasefire violation was reported late Monday night in the Nangi Tekri area of Krishna Ghati around 8.10 pm. He said the Pakistani Army used small arms to target the Indian posts and the firing continued intermittently for some time.”
Acharaya said Pakistani Army once again opened ‘unprovoked’ firing in the same sector on Tuesday around 1.10 pm and it continued for over one hour. He said the Indian troops gave them the calibrated response.
Meanwhile, Pakistani officials on Tuesday alleged that two Indian fighter jets entered 7 km into the country’s airspace over Punjab province. They alleged the jets remained in Pakistani airspace for over one minute. IAF sources in Delhi, however, rejected the claim saying, “Our pilots did not cross the border”.
