A heavily armed Pakistani infiltrator who jumped inside the Indian territory after climbing the barbed wire fencing along the International Border in Arnia sub-sector of Jammu frontier was neutralised by the alert BSF jawans, at least 50 metres from the fencing towards the Indian side, on Monday.
The forced infiltration bid along the International Border is a clear cut indication that Pakistan is growing nervous after failed infiltration attempts along the line of control and trying to shift focus by pushing small groups of infiltrators through the IB. Till last reports came in intermittent small arms firing was going on in the area. The body of the Pakistani infiltrator, lying closer to the fence, could not be recovered due to intermittent exchange of fire till last reports came in.
In the absence of recovery of infiltrators dead body, it could not be ascertained whether any explosive material was tied on his body or not. The fact that the infiltrator climbed the fence and jumped inside the Indian territory clearly revealed the infiltrators were launched to execute a ‘terror plot’ to inflict maximum causalities on the Indian side. local villagers in the forward areas of Arnia sub-sector fear Pak to try to escalate tensions in the same sector by targeting civilian areas.
According to ground reports, “A group of Pakistani infiltrators camping closer to the International border came close to the bundh (sand mound) taking advantage of the thick wild growth on the Pakistani side of the border and tried to sneak inside the Indian territory around 3.40 pm.”
BSF spokesman said, “ The heavily armed infiltrators opened fire on BSF jawans deployed in the forward area to divert their attention. The group of infiltrators were also given cover fire by the Pakistani rangers from their nearby posts".
"While BSF troops retaliated the fire one of the infiltrators managed to climb the barbed wire fencing and jumped inside the Indian territory. Before the armed infiltrator could initiate any action he was neutralised by the BSF jawans, at least 50 metres inside the Indian territory" BSF spokesman added.
The sequence of events preceding forced Infiltration bid clearly revealed desperation on the part of the Pakistan rangers to facilitate infiltration at any cost to execute terror strikes across Jammu region. Meanwhile, high alert was sounded along the International border to prevent repeat of forced infiltration bids in other sectors across Jammu frontier.
