Pak infiltrator killed in Jammu

After sneaking at least 300 meters inside the Indian territory from the line of Control (loC), a heavily armed infiltrator from the Pakistani side was killed in Mendhar area of Poonch district on early Friday morning by the Indian Army.

The incident was reported in the area after a long gap as the thrust area remained International Border in the recent months. According to Intelligence reports, with the onset of summer, the focus of infiltrators would now be gradually shifted from the International Border to the loC in frontier Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu.

Reports claimed that the infiltrator — dressed in combat uniform — targeted a patrol party led by an officer at Sune Gali, Mendhar around 8.50 a.m on Friday. “The patrol party was reportedly fired upon 300 meters from the Indian side of the loC. In a swift response, the Indian troops managed to eliminate the infiltrator without facing much resistance,” official sources said.

Following the fresh infiltration bid, evident from the recovery of GPS and ORS material, area domination patrolling was enhanced by the field commander to check similar incidents in the coming days.

“During the subsequent search and combing operation the Army jawans recovered one AK rifle, four magazines, two hand grenades, 78 rounds of AK 47, almonds and toffees,” the Defence PRO said in Jammu.
