Pakistan on Wednesday issued visas to the mother and wife of former Navy official Kulbhushan Jadhav who is languishing in Pakistani jail on espionage and spying charges.
The information about the visas was released by Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal. “Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi issued the visas to the mother and wife of Commander Jadhav to visit Islamabad to meet him, today,” Faisal tweeted.
Pakistan has fixed December 25 as the date for the meeting between Jadhav, his mother and wife. An Indian diplomat too has been granted permission by the Pakistan Government to accompany Jadhav’s family at all occasions when in Pakistan. Besides, the Pakistan Government has assured safety and security of the Jadhav’s mother and wife as long as they are in the country.
Jadhav has been awarded death sentence by a Pakistan military court which has been put on hold by the International Court of Justice following India’s petition that Pakistan has violated the provisions of Vienna Convention on Consular Access by denying Jadhav consular access. India has made 18 requests for consular access to Jadhav. All have been denied.
