Pak envoy seeks MEA intervention in teenage girl's molestation case

Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit has complained to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) about alleged molestation of a Pakistani teenage girl by an official of Foreigner Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) in Pune. Basit raised the issue both verbally and through a written complaint, seeking action against the accused. The FRRO official — attached to the Pakistan desk visited the 13-year-old girl’s house on March 24 on the pretext of verifying some documents and allegedly molested her.  Officials in Pakistan embassy said the girl is on a long-term visa to India.

The Commissioner, in a letter, has “conveyed concern over the incident of molestation” with a minor Pakistani girl and urged the Indian authorities to take necessary action with regard to bringing the culprits to justice and “for providing relief and redressal to the affected Pakistani citizen.”

It also asked the Ministry to share with it the contacts of the girl, findings of the investigation and action taken against the accused. “We are following up the case with the Indian government,” said an official from Pakistan embassy.
