Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman and Congress MP KV Thomas on Monday said the panel has asked RBI Governor Urjit Patel and top Finance Ministry officials, including the Finance Secretary and Economic Affairs Secretary, to be present before it on January 20 for scrutiny of the major policy decisions.
Thomas said that the PAC has already sent a questionnaire to RBI Governor and awaiting reply. “It is the committee which takes decision on such matters. Decisions in this regard will be taken only after the January 20 meeting of the PAC,” Thomas said when asked whether the PAC would summon Prime
Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
“We have powers to summon anyone... Even the Prime Minister and the ministers...That question will come later only. Not now,” Thomas said while talking to reporters in Kochi. He also said that the panel would scrutinize whether the Prime Minister’s assurance that the difficulties regarding demonitisation has over come in 50 days, as promised.
