In a massive explosion more than 900 cooking gas cylinders caught fire and gutted few vehicles at Chintamani near Bengaluru on late Sunday night creating panic in the town. According to police two trucks carrying 900 lPG cylinders caught fire triggering the massive explosion.
“As many as 900 gas cylinders burst after two lorries laden with them, and a nearby car, accidentally caught fire near the godown of SNl Gas Agency in Chintamani, about 80 km from Bengaluru,” Sub-Inspector liaqat Ali told the media.
What followed were deafening blasts and huge inferno for some time as the cylinders exploded one after the other damaging at least one more car. “There was no loss of lives or injury as nobody was inside the parked vehicles,” the police said. The blasts occurred between 12.30am to 1am, on Monday and fire personal doused the blaze within half an hour.
According to police, no casualties have been reported so far, but the huge ball of orange fire triggered by the explosion consumed two trucks and a vehicle. The video grab of the incident shown in the local TV channels gave multiple blasts reverberating around the area. The flames have been doused and the situation was brought under control.
A short circuit in the battery of one of the trucks, in which the cylinders were loaded, reportedly caused the explosion. Police and fire department officials have arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation. Investigation is on.
