Jharkhand Police Headquarters has deployed more than 50 police officers under two separate orders to oversee security and law-and-order arrangements for the shraddh ceremony of Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s late mother, Rupi Soren, scheduled to be held at his ancestral village of Nemra in Ramgarh district from October 15 to 19. Additional forces will also be deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme.
While 55 officers have been assigned duties under one order, another order issued on October 12 provides for the deployment of 13 senior officers. They have been directed to report at their designated locations by the afternoon of October 15 and remain on duty until the programme concludes on October 19. The Ramgarh Superintendent of Police has been instructed to ensure timely reporting and the return of officers after completion of their assignments.
The deployment includes personnel from Ranchi, Deoghar, Hazaribagh, Giridih, Palamu and other districts, besides specialised units such as the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), Special Branch and Special Task Force (STF).
Among the officers deputed are STF DIG Indrajit Mahatha, Ranchi Rural SP Gaurav Goswami, Jharkhand Police SP Sumit Kumar Agrawal, Bokaro Commandant Rakesh Kumar Jha, Jamshedpur Commandant Rajesh Kumar and Dhanbad Rural SP S.O. Mohammad Yaqub.
Other officers include Additional SP (Operations), Giridih, Surjeet Kumar; Railway DSP, Jamshedpur, Jayshree Kujur; Ranchi DSPs Tarun Kumar and Manoj Kumar-III; Deoghar DSPs Kavindra Oraon and Naushad Alam; and Palamu DSP Dayanand Azad. Several officers from Hazaribagh, Ranchi and different IRB units have also been assigned responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Nemra continued to receive visitors on Wednesday as political leaders, senior officials, citizens and representatives of social organisations arrived to pay tribute to the late Rupi Soren and offer condolences to the Chief Minister and his family.
Despite the bereavement, Hemant Soren continued to attend to public grievances. He met people who had gathered in the village, heard their problems and personally received applications, directing officials to ensure their prompt and fair redressal.
In one instance, the Chief Minister provided tricycles to two persons with disabilities, Lakkhi Ram Manjhi of Dhordhora village in Gola block of Ramgarh district and Sukhdev Sao of Churchu in Hazaribagh district, after taking note of their difficulties.
Among those who visited Nemra were MLAs Pradeep Yadav, Janardan Paswan and Mangal Kalindi; former ministers Bandhu Tirkey and Banna Gupta; former MPs Ghuran Ram, Shailendra Mahto, Bhuvneshwar Prasad Mehta and Ravindra Kumar Pandey; and former legislators Samri Lal and Aparna Sengupta.
Senior IAS and IPS officers also offered floral tributes to the late Rupi Soren. Members of the public and social organisations joined them in expressing condolences to the bereaved family.
