Out-of-syllabus questions have Commerce students fuming

A group of Class XII Commerce students were unhappy with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for coming up with out-of-syllabus questions in the Business Studies exam held on Thursday.

Complaining against the CBSE, students revealed that most of the part that was in syllabus and was stressed upon by the teachers was not in the paper while the portions of the course which were struck off in some schools carried major weightage. "We were asked to strike off a few topics, including Management Training and hence, we did not prepare it but were shocked to see it in the question paper and it carried seven marks," said Varun Nilesh Singh, student of Kulachi Hansraj Model School, Ashok Vihar whose examination centre was Maharaja Agrasen School, Ashok Vihar.

He added that a complaint was made to the invigilator and authorities supervising the exam regarding the out-of-syllabus portion in the paper but the students were told to write whatever they knew and a decision would be taken during the checking of papers. "We were asked to attempt it and if it was found out-of-syllabus, the examiner will give full marks on it," said another student from Kulachi Hansraj School.

However, contrary to some students in the Capital finding it tough, students at other places in the country found the paper a cakewalk and praised the CBSE for keeping the questions simple and direct. "I am quite happy with the pattern. I am expecting to score well in the paper. It was easy and within syllabus," said Kishan, a student studying in Gujarat's Vapi area.

This was the second exam for Commerce students of Class XII who have their next exam after a huge gap on March 22.
