Reacting to the murder of Delhi Police constable in Vijay Vihar area, political parties in the national Capital have raised concerns over security issues in the city, especially since festivals are just around the corner. Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay has written a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, asking the police to take precautionary measures to prevent eve teasing and chain snatching of women during the festival season.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener, Arvind Kejriwal, on the other hand, has written a letter to Delhi lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung requesting him to immediately provide financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the family of the dead. Meanwhile, the Delhi Congress has accused the Home Ministry of “failing” to provide safety and security to Delhiites and alleged that law and order situation has gone “out of control” in the national Capital.
A day after police constable Jagvir Singh was shot dead by five unidentified persons, Upadhyay on Tuesday urged the Police Commissioner to provide sufficient equipment to police personnel and make them well-armed to fight such criminals. In a letter to Police Commissioner BS Bassi, Upadhyay also expressed grave concern over the incidents of attack on policemen, chain snatching and eve-teasing.
“The fatal attacks on policemen show that the criminal elements are not afraid of the police. It is a serious matter. The police force should not only be vigilant but should also possess sufficient equipment to take effective action against the criminals,” the Delhi BJP chief said in the letter.
In his letter to Jung, AAP’s Kejriwal requested him to immediately provide a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to Jagvir’s family. “It has been pointed out that the AAP Government had made a policy of granting Rs 1 crore compensation to the family of police personnel killed in the line of duty. This policy should be implemented in every such case,” read Kejriwal’s letter. The letter also demands proper medical treatment for the injured constable Narender. Besides, he has asked Jung to ensure that working hours be fixed for the Delhi Police personnel, their housing and medical facilities be improved apart from improving their working conditions.
Delhi Congress leaders have demanded a Government job for the wife of constable Jagvir Singh, who was shot dead by five unidentified armed assailants in Outer Delhi on October 13. “Home Ministry has not only failed to provide safety and security to the people of Delhi, but the law and order situation in the Capital has also gone out of control to create a “jungle raj” kind of situation in the national Capital.
“If a constable is not safe, why is the BJP-led Central Government mouthing slogans of providing security to the common manIJ” asked Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh lovely, while addressing a Press conference.
