Failure of the Telangana Government in filling 1.07 lakh vacancies in various departments sparked off a strong protest and walkout by the entire Opposition from the State Assembly on Tuesday
The Opposition members, who were dissatisfied with the reply of Finance Minister E Rajender during the Question Hour staged a walkout during the Question Hour. The entire Question Hour was dominated by the issue of Government vacancies as the Opposition went hammer and tongs against the Telangana Rashtra Samiti Government for failing to keep its election promise even nine months after coming to power.
Opposition members including the leader of main Opposition party Congress K Jana Reddy and BJP floor leader K lakshman cautioned the Government against ignoring the unrest sweeping universities across State over the issue of filling the Government vacancies.
They demanded to know why the Government had failed to keep its promise and why their was so much unrest across all the university campuses.
The issue was raised by G Chinna Reddy (Congress) who alleged that the Government lacked clarity on how it intends to fill all the vacancies, a key promise of the ruling party. He was joined by the BJP floor leader K lakshman, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and CPI’s Ravindra Kumar Naik. K Jana Reddy demanded a clear time table for filling the vacancies.
in his reply to the question, E Rajender said that the government was committed to fulfill its promise. “But the opposition is trying to politicize the issue”. He held the successive governments responsible for the number of vacancies being so high as they failed to fulfill their promises.
The finance minister said that the indiscriminate hiring by the earlier governments in the form of contract employees and outsourcing to the private agencies had created so many hurdles in the way of the present government. “We are trying to over come these hurdles”, he said.
He wanted to know from Jana Reddy why the previous Congress government did not fill the vacancies and why the CPI members were silent on TDP government’s role in appointing contract employees.
This sparked a furor from the opposition benches with members leveling a counter allegation that the government was trying to divert the issue.
Akbaruddin Owaisi (MIM), who did not join the other opposition parties in walk out, wanted the government to come out with a clear picture with the number of temporary, permanent and contract employees and outsources workers in the state.
