Congress president Sonia Gandhi made a scathing attack on the Opposition accusing it of creating instability in the country. However, these attempts would be thwarted by the people and the UPA Government at the Centre, she asserted.
Addressing a function in Suratgarh, after laying the foundation stone of the 7th and 8th unit of Suratgarah Super Thermal Power Plant, the UPA chairperson without naming any party said that these parties had created hurdles in the passage of the Food Security Bill.
At the same time she also expressed her confidence that the Bill will be passed in coming session of Parliament. Gandhi said that the UPA Government wants to ensure that no one in the country remains hungry and the proposed Food Security Bill was aimed to achieve this goal.
Besides the power project, Gandhi also laid down the foundation stone of a major drinking water scheme for Nagaur in western Rajasthan.
At Jayal, she laid down the foundation of about Rs3000-core Nagaur Canal lifting Scheme and said that it was a dream of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to bring water from Himalaya to this area where drinking water is precious.
Both the programmes were finalised in a hurry as Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot wanted to start maximum number of social welfare schemes ahead of the Assembly elections, which are a few months away.
