Opp stalls House over biased fund allocations in Maharashtra

The BJP-led Opposition members stalled the proceedings in the State Assembly for the second consecutive day on Wednesday over the alleged discrimination against them in the constituency-wise allocation of development funds by the Congress-led DF Government.

After the Sena-BJP-MMS members forced three noisy adjournments in the State Assembly in protest against the ‘step motherly’ treatment meted out to the constituencies represented by the Opposition MlAs, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan held out an olive branch to the Opposition members by saying that the State Government would rectify “discrimination”, if any, done to the Opposition legislators.

“I agree that funds were diverted for drought-relief work and as a result, there was some shortage in allocation for road repair work… The Government will take a decision that will be satisfactory to all. We will remove any sense of injustice done to (opposition) legislators,” Chavan said after the third adjournment in the State Assembly.

The Opposition was in no mood to relent. Before staging a walkout from the House, the Opposition members shouted slogans against the State Government over the discrimination against them vis-à-vis the allotment of funds.
