Opp RJD's no trust motion rejected

The main Opposition party RJD faced a major embarrassment in the Bihar Assembly on Thursday when its no confidence motion was rejected  in view of the party’s failure to garner the support of required number of members.

State Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary was left with no option other than rejecting the RJD’s no confidence motion when he found that only 17 members were in favour of bringing no confidence motion against the minimum requirement of 23 members.

As soon as the Question Hour was over, an RJD member Durga Prasad Singh and six other party members submitted a no confidence motion against the Government to the Speaker.

The four Congress members, one lJP and CPI member each and six Independent MlAs did not support the RJD members in moving the no confidence motion against the government.

Singh said that he brought the no confidence motion against the government with a purpose to "awaken its conscience" as it was allegedly not performing its constitutional duty properly.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was present in the House when the no confidence motion was brought by RJD members.

State Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary claimed that the RJD members did not take the opinion of even leader of Opposition Abdul Bari Sidiiqqui before bringing the no confidence motion.
