Opp protests price rise, lS adjourned

Published on:

lok Sabha on Monday witnessed frequent adjournments due to the combined protest by the Opposition on price rise and rail fare hike. The protests led by Congress, TMC, left and AAP members have forced the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings of the House to next day.

Though Government admitted for debate under Rule 193, the Opposition MPs led by Captain Amrinder Singh insisted for an immediate debate by adjourning the other proceedings of the House. As soon as House, assembled TMC members and left MPs barged to the Well shouting slogans and placards. Congress MPs preferred to stand on their seats and on the way to the Well, shouting slogans.

Rahul Gandhi was also seen standing on the way to the Well, along with agitating MPs. BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy took a swipe at Rahul saying the Congress leader has become more active after his party came into Opposition.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s attempt to run the Question Hour in the morning could not succeed more than 20 minutes. When the House assembled at 12 noon, also protests continued leading to the adjournment up to 2pm. Central Minister’s Dharmendra Pradhan and Narendra Singh Tomar were given answers to the questions posed by MPs in the Question Hour, during the din.

The Opposition continued the protest in the afternoon also. Slogans like “achha din ayega, mahangai badhayega” and ‘roll back rail fare hike’ were heard in the House.  Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkiah Naidu’s promise to hold debate under Rule 193 was rejected by the Opposition. Though the Opposition members tried to provoke the treasury benches, BJP MPs were seen in controlled mode.
