Assam Police has launched massive operation against the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants, who had killed seven persons in three districts of Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD since last Friday.

On Sunday, the suspected NDFB anti-talk faction militants attacked a trader at Sonitpur district. The trader, however, survived but sustained serious injuries. Police have also found a body from a place under Bagribari police station in Dhubri district on Sunday. Police, however, did not rule out involvement of NDFB anti-talk faction behind the incident.

Police sources said that the NDFB militants set some extortion demand to one Bikram Rai at Batasipur area under Dhekiajuli police station in Sonitpur district. “The militants today came to collect the extortion money. However, the militants fired at Rai after he refused to pay,” said police.

“We are going to launch even stronger operation against the anti-talk faction of the NDFB militants in the BTAD. They are targeting the Hindi-speaking people and Minority people as they are the soft target,” said a senior police official after emerging out of an law and order review meeting at Kokrajhar on Sunday.

It may be mentioned here that anti-talk faction of the NDFB militants had killed one person Saturday evening at Ambagan in Udalguri district in the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD), police said. The NDFB militants also fired indiscriminately at Bagidara village in Chirang district, killing one person and injuring five others yesterday. The same militants had killed five civilians and injured four others in Kokrajhar district on late Friday night.

Meanwhile, the All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) had called for a 36 hour bandh in the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts from 6 am tomorrow in protest against the stepped up violence by the NDFB anti-talk faction.

The Peoples’ Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM)—a conglomeration of over 30 Bodo and Non-Bodo organizations in Bodoland—have condemned the violence by the NDFB anti-talk faction militants in the past few days and said that this kinds of violence will lead to creation of bad blood among the various communities living in BTAD.
