A 20-year-old boy was killed, while three others, including two pedestrians, were injured in a welding gas cylinder explosion at Shil Daighar, near Thane city, on Tuesday morning. Identifying the boy killed in the mishap as one Gulab alias Samsher Alam Ali Shaikh, a resident of Thakur Pada, the Thane police said that the blast took place when he and another fellow worker were transporting a welding gas cylinder.

The blast rocked the Shil Daighar area, when a gas welding cylinder fell down all of a sudden on the road and exploded. Shaikh who was among the two persons transporting the cylinder was killed on the spot, while three others — Sejad Shaikh (25), Abdul Hakim (66) and Rana Yadav (42) — sustained burn injuries in the blast. While Sejad was accompanying Shaikh, two other injured persons were passing by when the mishap took place.
