Omar: Wars no solution, bring only destruction

Two days advising “bullet for bullet option” in response to Pakistan’s attempts to raise border tension, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday appeared with a fig leaf advocating peace and tranquility between India and Pakistan. He said wars have never solved any issue except bringing destruction and miseries to common people.

“No one in Jammu and Kashmir or in the Country is in favour of war as the wars are no solution to any issue”, Omar said at a public meeting in Tangdhar village, closer to the loC in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The Chief Minister visited the area, a day after he alongwith Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde visited the areas in Jammu affected by recent skirmishes and shelling from across the border.

He said that friendship required equal response from either sides. “Friendship is like a clap needing two hands to perform. If one side extends the hand of friendship the other side also needs to reciprocate”, he said while expressing concern over the violation of ceasefire and shelling at lOC and International Border (IB).

He said the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan signed and implemented in 2003 has been highest reward for the people of Jammu and Kashmir particularly living on the loC and IB.

He urged the Central Government to take up the issue of perpetual cease-fire violations with Pakistan linking it with the highest interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir particularly the residents of the border areas of Kashmir, Jammu and ladakh. The Chief Minister expressed the hope that the situation will come to normality and the two neighbours talk to each other to settle all outstanding issues in an amicable and peaceful manner.
