Ahead of US President Barack Obama’s visit, a high alert was issued on Thursday in all metro cities especially in Mumbai, following Intelligence inputs about possible attacks by operatives of Jehadi groups from Pakistan. The high alert was issued after the agencies seized some communication between certain operatives with their masterminds across the border on planning attacks at the famous Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai.
According to security and intelligence officials, the Indian Mujahideen sleeper cells hiding in India had communications with leT and JuD cadre in Pakistan on planning terror strikes in the temple on Tuesdays, when maximum crowd gathers. The input shared by Intelligence Bureau with their Maharashtra counterparts indicates that four sleeper cells were assigned to this terror attack by the masterminds from Pakistan. Four action groups were engaged by leT to conduct terror attacks in India during the coming week.
Top Intelligence officials claim, the sleuths have traced that these groups were hiding Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Odisha. "Security agencies are assigned with tasks to neutralise these four groups and majority of the group members are believed to have infiltrated from Pakistan in mid 2014. All are in the age group of 25 years. The Mumbai attack team is led by one Abdullah al-Quresi and assisted by Nasir Ali, Jabed Ekbal, Mobid Zeman and Shamsher,” said officials.
Apart from leT and JuD, Hizbul Mujahideen and JeM from Pakistan are actively engaged in the infiltration of terrorists into India to stage terror strikes in various cities. These infiltrated terror groups are aided by several sleeper cells of Indian Mujahideen by providing shelter and logistics.
