Within hours after its departure, a New York-bound Air India flight returned to Mumbai airport from Iranian airspace on Tuesday morning, following a technical glitch.
The flight, AI-119, bound for New York, took off from the Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) at around 2.20 am and returned to the city airports within the next few hours.
Informed sources said that the aircraft developed a technical snag in the Iranian airspace, prompting the airline management to call back the aircraft to undertake precautionary checks in the interest of passengers and crew safety.
On its return, the flight landed safely at CSMIA in the morning. The aircraft was sent for the technical checks, while the AI authorities made arrangements to look after all the passengers on board the flight.
