On the day when the Army claimed a major success against the NSCN(K) militants along the Indo-Myanmar border, the militant outfit on Tuesday claimed to have accorded ‘a warm victory reception’ to their Joint assault team that returned after vanquishing the enemy forces at Chandel district on Manipur on June 4.

The outfit sent a statement to the media on Tuesday and said that the three senior leaders of the three outfits—Starson of the NSCN (K), laba Meitei, president of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and Chairman of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna lup (KYKl), N Oken were accorded the ‘warm welcome’ for their success against the Army.

The Army in New Delhi claimed to have conducted a military operation against separatist guerrillas near the border with Myanmar on Tuesday and said that had engaged with two groups of militants along the border and inflicted “significant casualties”. The NSCN(K) statement came after the Army issued the statement on Tuesday and television channels across the country flashed the news of massive military strike on the militants. The NSCN(K) statements said that the ‘solemn occasion’ was participated by the army chiefs of KCP, KYKl, the NSCN (K).

“Though overwhelmed by praises galore for exceptional gallantry exhibited by the fighters, the event was rather somber for the losses of the unit commander, Maj. Raza of the Naga army and Corporal Amit alias Keisham Rajen (27), of KYKl, who died during and after the battle,” the statement said. The statement said that while Maj Raza was hit by an enemy mortar shell in the battlefield, the KYKl commander probably died due to heart failure.
