Now, Thakor members demand 20% reservation

At a time when Gujarat Government is working hard to resolve Patidar reservation stir issue, members of Thakor community who are already enjoying OBC benefits have demanded a separate 20 per cent reservation.

In a silent rally held by the Thakor community members in Visnagar town of North Gujarat they also demanded Rs 2500 crore package for their community. They have formed a platform called ‘Kshatriya Thakor Samaj Anamat Samiti’ in lines with Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) headed by 22-year-old Hardik Patel to put their demand before the State Government.

Thakor community had also submitted a memorandum to Visnagar Tehsildar in which they said that despite they fall under OBC quota, the community is still remained backward and hence they should be given separate 20 per cent reservation in educational institutions as well as Government jobs.

The memorandum further said that majority in the community are landless and they do not have any other means of livelihood. They argued that though Thakore community is part of OBC category, members of many other communities under the same category are taking all the benefits.

They also demanded that the Government should set up educational institutions exclusively for their community in which free education should be provided to their children up to graduation. The president of the society Ajmalji Thakore also threatened the State Government to intensify the agitation if their demands would be not accepted. He further said that they planned to organise huge rallies across the State to pressurise the State Government. It is worth mentioning that Thakor community organised rally despite police didn’t give permission.
