Now, get automatic refund for cancelled train e-tickets

In a major relief to passengers seeking refund of e-tickets of cancelled trains, the Railway Ministry on Tuesday decided to grant automatic refund of confirmed/RAC e-tickets similar to waitlisted e-tickets instead of passengers waiting refund through Ticket Deposit Receipts (TDR) process.

Earlier there was a mandatory requirement for cancellation/filing of TDR for refund of e-tickets in case of cancellation of trains. The decision comes after Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu directed the authorities to look into the mater after he was flooded with several complaints on social media and also written about the tedious process of refund in such cases.

In case of cancellation of trains, PRS counter ticket would continue to be refunded across the reservation counter as per the existing provisions. This is the second passenger welfare related measure by the Minister following complaints of ticketing system.

Earlier last month railways decided of giving refund on cancellation of Tatkal tickets, the percentage of which would be calculated based on certain time frames. Also  to ease pressure during peak hours, it also decided to stagger booking of Tatkal tickets by allowing reservations in AC class from 10 am to 11 am and non-AC class from 11 am.
