A week after ruling BJP’s door-to-door election campaign, the Opposition Congress too initiated a similar campaign on Tuesday in view of the Gujarat polls to be held on December 9 and 14.
The Congress has kept a mammoth target to reach out one crore houses across the State ahead of the polling dates. Gujarat Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki and Gujarat in-charge of the oldest political outfit in the country and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot started the campaign in Ahmedabad.
Interestingly, just like BJP, the Congress party also started its door-to-door campaign from Patidar dominated Naranpura constituency from where BJP’s national president elected as MlA in the 2012 Assembly polls. Shah had started BJP’s door-to-door campaign — Gujarat Gaurav Mahasampark Abhiyan exactly a week ago on November 7. If the ruling party’s door-to-door campaign was for five days, the Opposition party stretched its version of similar campaign for a fortnight.
Gujarat Congress president said that as part of the campaign, party leaders would meet people personally and give leaflets explaining Congress’ view points and how the party would like to solve the people’s problem if voted to power. On the other hand, Gehlot claimed that Congress would emerge victorious in the ensuing State polls as people were not happy with the ruling BJP.
Apart from Gujarat Congress leaders, central leadership of the Congress party will also participate in the campaign in the various parts of the State. Visits of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Jyotiraditya Scindia have already been confirmed, said Gujarat Congress spokesman Manish Doshi adding that more leaders would confirm their presence in Gujarat in coming days.
