Note freeze failed to achieve goals: CPM

Published on:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme of demonetisation has failed to achieve its goals, the CPI(M) has alleged. All the announcements, including that about wiping out black money, made by the Prime Minister over demonetisation had turned out to be mere words, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury told media persons in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. Stating that the CPI(M) would hold a nationwide campaign in January itself to expose the hollowness of demonetization, Yechury said after a three-day central committee meeting of his party that the Prime Minister’s move for digital transactions would only lead to putting additional burden on the ordinary people who were already reeling under cash crunch. “We will conduct an independent campaign and will ask the other left parties who have similar views to join us,” he said. Yechury said that Rs11,00,000 crore was being given out as loan to corporate giants while there was no money for waiving farmers’ loans.
